I have been playing since 1968 and teaching since 1973, and have given many thousands of lessons to students of all ages and musical tastes. Each student moves at their own pace; I teach a rounded approach, including reading music (which is unfortunately not always included in guitar lessons), as well as the usual chords, and tie it all together with simple theory that can also help you to improvise and create your own music. Once a student has reached a sufficient level, they can bring in songs they want to do as part of the lessons.
I have been teaching for over 40 years, and the reason is that I love music and feel priviledged to be able to take this thing I love and pass it on to someone else who will love it too. Teaching has given me the opportunity to meet and interact with a wide range of people from kindergardeners to retirees and from many backrounds and I have been lucky enough to consider all my students also as friends. Learning music has been shown to benefit education at all levels, but teaching has benefited me as well as my students.
