About

My teaching approach: I have participated in guitar lessons and education for 30 years and counting to improve my playing and teaching abilities. Some of this includes: University level training on classical guitar. Education in recording and music industry/business. Music theory and composition training. Many private lessons from some amazing instructors. Personal studies. I have performed in many bands and church groups. Success comes from using low pressure highly interactive lessons. There must be a relationship between understanding and playing. Lessons are expandable and progressive. My influences are: Everyone and everything. I love all sorts of music. I would also say life in general, all of my teachers, family, friends, students, books, have influenced the way I teach. My guitar lessons take place in: my studio. Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: Students come to my OshkoshGuitar studio. I do not travel to students due to a tight schedule. Guitar Technique, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Lead guitar Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: 1st lesson= Talk about the student's musical experience and self interest. Cover the basic structure of practicing and lessons. Discus attitude and motivation. What is practice and how easily time is waisted if practice is done incorrectly. Why an instructor is like a time machine. Exercises to get started. Reading/Book assignments. End/Goodbyes. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: Every student is different and needs to be treated as an individual. Lessons will be based on the following structure with changes as needed per individual situation. Greeting, Warm up exercises, New exercise for the week, Review of assignments (student will play through projects and communicate frustrations/success/questions), Coaching based on progress, New assignments, Review of lesson, End/goodbyes. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: No such thing! If you want to learn, I want to teach. A student will go through many phases of learning and motivation. I like being involved with all of them. There is however a least ideal student, one who does not pay for lessons. Lessons are very valuable and should be treated so. If this is not the case, the student and teacher suffer loss.
