My teaching approach: I teach basics via the Hal Leonard guitar method, but generally do not devote the entire lesson to the book. Since each student is different, I am committed to shaping the lessons to the students needs. I am willing to suggest and try anything that will keep the guitar a joyful experience. I also teach mandolin and fiddle, with a leaning toward old-time and Irish music. My influences are: My influences are too numerous to mention! A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: We often visit the book at the beginning, to run through an exercise or two. This is usually quite brief. Then, we concentrate on music that the student is interested in, using it as the backdrop for instructing techniques, offering tips and reinforcement of music theory when applicable. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: I love a student who is motivated, positive and wants to have fun.
