My teaching approach:

My teaching approach is to base all of my lessons on each student's individual musical tastes and goals. So if a student is interested in building speed we'll work on alternate picking exercises or right hand patterns for classical and fingerstyle students. If they're more interested in rhythm guitar we'll work on that. And throughout we'll focus on music of the students choosing. I have a bachelor's degree in music and my primary instrument in college was classical guitar. I primarily play with a pick, however, and can teach in various styles.

Paul Gilbert, John McLaughlin, John Coltrane, Al De Meola, Beethoven, Beatles, and really any other artist who's music hits my ear.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

First lesson would be to just chat with the student to find out what types of music they are into. To find out where (s)he stands as far as experience and ability goes I'd just have them play something for me, just a few lines of a song, a scale exercise, improv, whatever. From there we can start building a lesson plan based on the student's goals.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Lessons can range from technique and theory to improv and song writing or just learning some songs. It all depends on where the student wants to go with it and what's needed to get them there.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal guitar student is one who is taking lessons because they have a legitimate love of music and a desire to improve their abilities and is willing to put in daily effort to improve their abilities no matter their musical tastes or technical goals.
