About this pro

I have over 40 years of experience as a Guitar instructor, including 32 years on the Faculty of the Music Occupations Department at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I have literally taught people of all ages and social backgrounds.

I can teach virtually all musical styles. My teaching philosophy is to give students a solid foundation to build upon, and teach them how to teach themselves through reading, listening, and effective practice techniques.

I enjoy helping people of all ages to play, enjoy, and have a better understanding of music.

Gary is very professional and experienced. He makes the lessons easy to understand as well as fun and engaging. The resources he uses to teach (method books, exercises, etc.) are also very helpful, and he is always available to help out if there is something I am confused with. I have improved greatly over the years thanks to Gary’s teaching.

I've been taking guitar lessons from Gary for many years. He has been fantastic. I've learned a tremendous amount of guitar skills under his tutelage. He teaches based on the skill of the student. I've been taught Rock, Classical, Finger style, Blues and other genres. He is very thorough with his mentoring methods. The method is very easy to follow. He is genuinely a great guy to learn from. His fees are very reasonable. I strongly recommend him to be your teacher too.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I ask the student if they have any musical experience, and what their goals are. Then I teach the the fundamentals as needed - right hand, left hand, playing posture, notation.

I provide music that the student wants to learn, including transcribing it myself if necessary.
