What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It totally depends on the student. I've taught hudreds and hundreds of people and each is different. I have standards and goals. How they are thought will depend on the person.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
University level training for guitar, recording, buisiness, composition, art. Private lessons on and off for close to 30 years. Various bands and studio work. Almost all of my personal hobbies and interests relate directly to music, learning, and general self improvement/expression.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do but to reduce "window shopping" that is not public information. Ask in your communication.
How did you get started teaching?
Started helping friends learn. It quickly became apparent that it worked well.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
All events. This is not a pertinent question so there is not an appropriate answer.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Absolutely make sure the teacher has been trained in communication. I have had teachers that are amazing musicians and terrible teachers. I have also had instructors that were average at best on their instruments but knew how to connect and transfer knowledge clearly. Also experience really counts.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Goals, time frame, how much will you work on the instruments, WHY are you seeking lessons,...
Basically the more clearly you know what you need the easier it will be to get it. :)
