Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically, I use the Faber Piano Adventures series when working with students. I like to utilize the "older beginners" version when working with students age 11 and up. I inquire as to what type of lessons they've done in the past and start them at a comfortable pace, taking into consideration where they are when starting off. I like to also incorporate scales and music theory into my teaching. I also feel it's important to ask if the parents/students have anything special they'd like to learn (a certain genre of music, lead sheets, etc). I recommend 30 minutes for younger beginners and 45 minutes for older beginners/intermediate learners.
