Certified Piano Instruction
About
Have been teaching for 25 years. Degree is on Music Therapy but found my true place was in teaching. I enjoy beginners of all ages and enjoy watching each student progress over time. I have 2 recitals per year and enter students in a regional festival of music and then a state wide competition for those that receive the highest score. Also enjoy playing duets with my students as well as continuing lessons for myself. I enjoy watching students get hooked on music "for life ".I take a casual approach but can. Be firm when needed.
It's never boring. Every student is different and I enjoy the challenge of figuring out a different way to explain concepts that a student may not understand. It is extremely hard to let go of a student I have had for 10-12 years but I enjoy maintaining contact with them through facebook.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Establish a routine for the lesson right away and discuss the need to oractice and do weekly theory assignments. I always encourage questions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Music Therapy and have taken piano lessons off and on my entire teaching career. I belong to the Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs and am very involved in their activities.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The standard rate is 80.00 per month due on the first lesson of the month. If I miss a lesson for some reason a credit of 20.00 will be extended the next month. If the student misses the lesson they still owe for it. Make up lessons are not guaranteed and depend on my schedule and ability to find a mutually workable time. If the student reaches the end of the month and has not paid no more lessons will be taught until the fee is caught up.
How did you get started teaching?
A friend saw what I was playing and suggested of I couid play at that level I might want to consider teaching. I started with 2 students and now have over 40. I've never looked back.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all ages and a number of special needs students as well. I like a challenge and will try taking on students that have been through a number of teachers with no success.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A student I had taught for 12 years finally couldn't fit in practice time because of school and her job. We had become friends over the years and still talk to each other. I have several students that turned into Facebook friends after they discontinued lessons.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Come with questions- there are no dumb questions. Make your wants and needs known so both can determine if it a good fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be specific about what it is you are looking for out of lessons. Don't be afraid to tell the reacher what is not working for you.
