Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have several experienced music instructors who offer lessons Monday through Saturday. We offer music lessons for piano, voice, brass, woodwinds, guitar, bass, ukulele, strings, and percussion. Our website has schedules and biographical information for our teachers: www.themusiccafe.com. We are here to assist you with answering questions and making those arrangements via email: [email protected] or phone: 262-378-4641.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our music instructors have many years experience teaching their respective instruments, as well as music education and professional training. As the owners of The Music Cafe, we have been in the music business for more than 25 years in Florida and in Wisconsin.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Private lessons are $25.00 per half hour, paid monthly in advance. Two of our instructors who have masters degrees in pedagogy charge 28.00 per 30 minute lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
Each of our teachers has various educational and professional backgrounds which are detailed on our website: www.themusiccafe.com.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have students of every walk of life, ages, background, and level of ability. We teach young children through adulthood at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every year in September and December, we host live music events that feature our students, local talent from our school districts, and other local adult groups and bands. This past December one of our guitar instructors, Dave Dohearty built an electric guitar and we enlisted the help of a local high school student to paint the guitar. We sold raffle tickets to win the gorgeous guitar with 100% of the proceeds donated to the local school district band program.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would encourage them to ask around, as word-of-mouth is often the best recommendation. Call your local music store for information about their teachers, questions about what is entailed, and assistance with setting up lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student should think about what his/her personal goals are with regard to their music education, how much time they have to dedicate to practicing, and develop a plan for accomplishing that goal. When a students meets with his/her teacher for the first time, he/she should have a discussion about their goals to help formulate a realistic plan.
