Guitar Lessons - Plover (Stevens Point area) Contact me for Rates! I teach private guitar lessons in Plover, Wisconsin. I customize lessons around each student to fit their wants needs and desires as well as their age and ability. Maybe you want to learn just basic chords, I can teach you that. Or do you want to learn to read the "notes".... or just tab? Do you want to learn your favorite music? I can make that happen! I have over 20 years of teaching experience. Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

For advanced students, I'll have them play something for me to determine where they're at. The first lesson is most difficult for the somewhat experienced student. Next I find out what their goals are and what they want to accomplish and design lessons based on that. For beginners, I start with an overview of the guitar - parts of the guitar, names of the strings etc.. I show them easy songs written in tablature, (melodies that they can recognize) Students ages 7-12 and under will walk out of the first lesson able to play 3 songs. With older students, I try to introduce up to easy 6 chords

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Lessons are customized around each individual based on their age, musical ability and personal goals. One example would be for the student to play a song or excercise out of their guitar book, either by themselves or with my accompaniment. I then let them know the positive things and then what they can do to improve. I also will asign a new piece to learn as well as reviewing the previous weeks lesson. In addition a student will have fun things to work on like a song from a CD or their IPod. I utilize standard music notation, guitar tablature and chord diagrams. This is one example - it varies

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal student is one that loves music and has a parent or other suportive member of the family that will take an active part in the students weekly lesson and daily practice. I would like students to make an attempt to practice each day (sometimes it's 5-10 minutes) anything is better than nothing. I understand that guitar lessons is something additional to school, work and sports. Mostly this is done for "fun" I love to see students progress, get excited and develop a love for music and the guitar.
