About

I am a pro guitarist and singer, with over 30 years experience teaching and performing. I studied Jazz Guitar at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and have been both a bandleader and sideman in Rock, Jazz, Folk, Country and Religious groups.

I love helping my students succeed at their goals and develop their musicianship to a level that allows them to creatively express themselves on the guitar, through singing, or both.

he is very patient with me and my son. his sense of humor gets the tone of the lesson where we like it. he chooses music that is challenging without overwhelming us. Most important, he makes us feel like our entire wellbeing is important to him, not just our musical ability.

I enjoyed working with Jeremy because he was very encouraging and patient with me. I gained a great deal of knowledge about singing in the short time I worked with him. He was an asset to my singing progression. I look forward to working with Jeremy in the future.

Frequently asked questions

I do an initial evaluation of students who begin lessons with me. This includes a set of questions I ask to understand the kinds of skills a student may already have, as well as to understand the kinds of music and artists they enjoy listening to. I explain my basic approach to teaching and we set some goals for learning. For students with previous guitar study, my initial evaluation may also include a performance demonstration by the student so that I can assess their current skill level and chart a course for future improvement and skill development.

I studied Jazz Guitar Performance at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music for 3 years. I have studied guitar with John Stropes, Manty Ellis, Jack Grassel, Rich Boukas and Ted Dunbar and have also studied Jazz Improvisation with Barry Harris and Berkeley Fudge. I studied Music Theory, Aural Skills and Arranging with Tony King, Laurdella Bodolay and Eddie Baker.

All pricing is based on a monthly tuition plan. 30-minute, 45-minute and 1-hour weekly lessons are available. Tuition varies based on the number of lessons scheduled each month.

I started teaching neighborhood kids when I was in my late teens. Later on, while I was a student at the music conservatory, I took on other students who had been referred to me by word-of-mouth. My teaching studio grew organically from that point on.
I have worked with young music students, ages 9 to 12, teen music students and adults ages 18 to 78.
I recently performed music for a group of older adults with my musical duo Sweet Ginger Pie.
If you're a beginner, start out with 30-minute lessons to see how you like it. Ask teachers that you are considering what their teaching approach is and make note (pun intended) of how many and what kind of questions they ask you about your interest in music and/or your past experience studying or playing music. A teacher who really cares about their students - like I do - will want to know what it is about music that you are passionate about ... why do you want to study music? And, how achievable are your goals?
How much time and effort are you willing to commit to the process of learning your instrument and learning music fundamentals? What are your initial goals for studying? Where would you like to be in 3 months? 6 months? A year? Do you want to play just for your own enjoyment and/or to share a few songs at parties or around the campfire with friends ? Or, do you want to play out with a band and make a few bucks? Or, do you want to seriously pursue music as your career?
