Roberta S. says, "Sharon was my Yoga Instructor when she taught here at the YMCA in Virginia Beach. I took classes from Sharon for approximately 4-5 years and love it. I have never felt better in my life. Since I am older, my flexibility was going and I had some pain in my back and hips. After I started taking yoga from Sharon I no longer suffered with pain in my back or hips. Yoga is one of the best things you can do for your body. Sharon always changes the classes up so that you are working many different areas of the body. I promise, you will love taking classes from her and you will feel better. " Read more

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

I started as a Jiu jitsu student under David Reilly in 2012 and felt immediately at home. The support system and camaraderie that’s comes with training at undisputed is second to none. I have recently worked myself up to a coach on the Jiu jitsu team and have to say, being able to pass the lessons I learned from others here to a new group of students is humbling and exciting. Undisputed isn’t just a gym, it’s a family.

I have been taking Vinyasa Yoga from Kevin Lemons since he certified a year ago and the difference in my body, mind and spirit are remarkable! I have taken his classes three times a week for about 9 months and my balance, strength and flexibility have soared. He has a wonderful way of being challenging and at the same time nurturing during classes and makes you stretch beyond what you think you can accomplish. His thoughtful meditations and timeless themes bring me serenity and peace and I always leave with gratitude for 75 minutes of time that could not have been better spent.

Sharon really takes time to see what the root cause is and treats that. I'm engaging her yoga therapy services for a few months now -- different from just a class. More personalized. She works specifically with my injury rather than just leading me through a sequence of stretches.
