Mark is such a down to earth and friendly caring person above all. With that being said, I learned the most about being a musician from Mark. When I first found The Alternative School of Music, I was 13 and I had teacher hopped a couple times looking for the right guitar teacher. My search ended when I found Mark and the Alternative School Of Music. Mark met me at the skill level and pace that I was at and coached me based on my musical interests, combined with the necessary theory. I was finally learning songs I liked and was thriving and getting better because of it, and that was the genius of Marks teaching.

My brother and I had joined together and shortly after, Mark had asked if we’d be interested in joining a combo group, which were basically bands composed of other students of similar or complementing skill and musical interests where we got to learn full songs together (from vocal students to violin and mandolin students). This was so key because it teaches you early about the real life dynamic of being a musician and playing with others, which is huge! That combined with biannual recitals gave me and my brother the fully formed musician experience that you can’t get from a place that only offers weekly lessons.

The Alternative School Of Music isn’t limited to any one genre of instruments, Mark teaches everything and I’m even currently recommending a saxophone player to The Alt School of Music. Mark works with your needs for schedule, etc, I really don’t think you can get a personalized and professional musical education like this anywhere else. I’ll be recommending the Alternative School Of Music to everyone!

Mark has been great with teaching both my girls music and voice. His flexibility is great too.

One of my daughters is currently in lessons for music and voice. She enjoys it very much also Mark is very knowledgeable and has a lot patience for teaching.

Alternative School of Music is an amazing and unique opportunity to further your skills in a wide variety of instruments or perfect your skills in just one. From voice, to piano, to guitar (classical, electric, alternative), bass guitar, drums, trumpet, saxophone, Mark Chavez (the musical instructor) will teach it all! Mark is an extremely patient, empathetic, caring, and effective instructor that goes with you at your pace while simultaneously pushing you to be the absolute greatest you can be. Mark not only does amazing private lessons but also has extreme talent in outing together groups of students to work together to play music and even wrote originals. He incorporates theory, music-writing, and teamwork to help each student not only become an exceptional musician but a versatile and cooperative one. Overall awesome school that I had the immense privilege of being a student at for over 15 years.

I loved the overall environment during my time there. I felt very comfortable and was able to connect with the teachers and students like family. To this day, I still practice many fundamentals in both music, and life! Mark Chavez is an excellent teacher and friend!
