Debbie L. says, "I love doing yoga with Julie! She always arrives on time energized, focused and ready to guide me through my breathing, meditation, and yoga poses. She gets my blood, breath and muscles moving! Her class covers a wide range of yoga poses which help me learn, improve and practice. I like that she provides additional time and modifies some of the of yoga postures for specific needs such as pain issues or age [I am 74 years old.] Sometimes my body can’t do what another person’s body can do and I have learned from Julie to just accept what my body can do that day. Yoga is like another language and you have to learn the basics correctly to have a good experience. Julie’s instructions are clear, she demonstrates every pose or sequence of poses, makes corrections to the pose of the student, answers questions and supports students to do yoga regularly. My health and my mood have definitely improved. I am investing in myself and improving my quality of life by attending Julie's yoga classes!" Read more

In a society where everything and everyone seems to be fast paced, trying to keep up with work, bills, and deadlines, and finding themselves ultimately deprived of balance, I’d like to help raise awareness around the importance of slowing down and finding time for healing and restoration of mind, body, and soul. Through an intentional and holistic approach, I hope to be able to make a difference by guiding those in need and in search of a little self care. Relief is one of my favorite feelings. I have discovered that when we are aware of what the body needs, and actively engage in meeting those needs, we’re consciously choosing to maintain go...

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

Vanessa coaching and influence has been life changing. She's motivating, patient, smart, and inspiring. Working with her for one month I got better results than I had ever dreamed of, and an experience far superior to the one I had at a top nearby fitness club.

My son has been working with Ben for over two years and has enjoyed the training and results. Ben is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly which goes a long way in building a fitness foundation for any teenager. I appreciate the time he has taken to not only get my son into a good, healthy fitness routine, but to also get to know him as a person. He is also willing to work with and around schedules which has been great when dealing with work, school, and other activities.

Caroline is an excellent teacher who creates a very safe and welcoming learning environment. I really enjoy the individual sessions that I have had with her and feel like our time together is always constructive. In addition to teaching yoga, Caroline is also great at helping me strategize for goal setting, relationship coaching, stress management, and nutrition planning. She has a comprehensive training method that brings all of these different aspects of wellness together. I highly recommend choosing her as a teacher!
