How did you get started teaching?
I've always been a teacher since I was little of those around me and gathered them around to choreograph dances and perform for others who would watch. By the time I was 15 I got my first formal teaching job taking over my own jazz class when my teacher got an opportunity to go on tour. I was also choreographing our high school musicals and cheerleading squad. Fast forward 30 years later I have taught thousands of people across the US and Canada and many artists who are now achieving awards such as Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, and Tonis. Others have opened their own artistic production companies or dance studios to keep arts alive for the next generation!
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all levels, ages, many different cultures, and lifestyles, many different settings, and situations. One thing we all have in common is that our body can communicate to the self, those around us, our community, planet, and spirit, so much better than we know, at first. Tap into the intelligence of the body.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A place that you can learn, feel good about yourself and be safe along the journey !
