About

(shoot me an email at [email protected])

Are you looking for personalized music lessons that cater to your unique needs and goals as a music student? Whether it's for guitar, bass, drums, or voice? Need to learn some counterpoint or theory for that AP exam?

Whatever your needs are, I've got you covered. I'm a very patient and nurturing instructor that makes sure that my students have fun while learning their instruments. Hey, I even make learning music theory fun.

I am an experienced music performer and instructor with about 20 years of experience as a professional musician. I can help you with your progress as a musician and help you get out of the YouTube rut that I see a lot of students get into. Obviously, there are a ton of great resources on YouTube but it doesn't replace the personalized touch that a seasoned music teacher can bring.

When it comes to teaching music, Ozzy is the rare combination of talent and patience. Not only does he have the cool factor, but he can play at LEAST 5 instruments at an expert level, so his understanding of music theory, technique, composition, and performance is astounding. He also plays and has played in numerous bands which helps give his teaching a real life experiential depth to it. Look no further than Ozzy!

There are dozens of talented musicians in LA. But not all of them are talented teachers. Ozzy is both. So when you get lessons from him youre not just getting someone who knows music really well youre getting someone who knows how to teach YOU music really well. Not only that, hes talented on multiple instruments so you could basically hire this guy to train youre entire band if you wanted to.

    Frequently asked questions

I immediately like to find out what the student is interested in and then create a plan of action on where he or she would like to be 3 to 6 months from now. From there, we would review their progress at that time with future goals in mind for improvement in all areas (repertoire, technique, musicianship, etc...).

I’ve studied under the expert tutelage of esteemed and distinguished composers such as Pulitzer Prize nominee Bruce Miller Ph.D. and Ronald Caltabiano D.M.A. ( protégé of Elliott Carter, Vincent Persichetti, and Aaron Copland). Other notable composers that he has studied with include Liviu Marinescu D.M.A, Patrick O'Malley D.M.A., and Brandon J. Rolle Ph.D.

I have also studied film scoring with composer and film music veteran Perry LaMarca and had previously worked for two-time Academy Award-winning songwriter/composer Al Kasha and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jeff Silbar.

I also worked at Remote Control Productions (Hans Zimmer) and Sacred Tiger Music (Henry Jackman). And in 2012 I was chosen to participate in the Society of Composer and Lyricists Mentorship Program.

I have also been part of national touring bands including Avid Dancer (Fat Possum Records) and have toured in support of bands including Cold War Kids, Hamilton Leithauser, Delta Spirit, and Kopecky.

I got my start teaching at a music studio in Brea while I was a music student in college.
I know it sounds cliché, but my students range in age from 6 to 60. I am equally comfortable teaching kids as well as adults as well as students who have a ton of musical experience.

I'd say to do a little shopping around and try out at least one lesson each with several teachers. You can compare and contrast, get a feel for their teaching style, and see if you vibe with that teacher.
I know it's pretty obvious, but ask yourself why you feel the need for lessons. Have a clear idea of what your goals are for lessons. Also, keep in mind that you only get as much out of lessons as you put into it. So ask yourself: How much time, realistically, can I devote to practicing? How often do I need to practice? (The answer is daily for this one) How committed am I to coming to my lessons every week? What is driving me to learn how to play my instrument?
