I try and teach what the student wants to learn rather than teach what I think they should know. I have training in Jazz and blues and have a more laid back approach to teaching. While I do not have a formal music degree I feel the years of private training I have received along with some college music courses make me well suited to teach guitar properly.
getting to work with students who really want to learn the guitar and show improvement each week. I’ve taught whole families that showed sincere interest and learned very quickly. I love music and getting to share my knowledge of the guitar is fulfilling especially when it sparks interest in new students.
I’ve always known basic chords but never had much of an understanding of music theory. Theo’s approach was clear and practical, and he was incredibly patient with me as I learned. My abilities have grown so much since working with him.
I am able to teach at many different levels depending on what the student wants. If the want to learn notation and music theory we can go that route and if they just want to learn chords to a song I can do that too. I can go into some technical work but if you’re looking to “shred” I would look for a more suitable instructor. My area of expertise is in ear training along with theory, improvisation and song writing.
