About
Hello, my name is Karl! I host piano lessons at Outpost Studios, a recording facility and audio house in San Francisco. My interest is helping musicians with their goals in music.

•15+ years music production
•20+ years of experience in solo & ensemble performance
I teach all classical fundamentals, and specialize in Latin Jazz. We can work towards advanced voice leading, harmony, and improvisation in intermediate levels.
At Outpost there is also a potential for recording our pieces digitally, so that students can keep an end product they have worked hard on and are satisfied with.
And most importantly its about learning to have fun with music!
I enjoy seeing people thrive in their creativity, learning to understand the process of reading, writing & feeling music.
I appreciate the layers of artistic expression in music and how it can be incorporated in performance, film, sound design and all other areas of life.
Teaching others and learning about how they can enjoy playing music is very rewarding. I love seeing my students overcome the pressures of performance with style and grace.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We often start with fundamentals to gauge a student's ability, and discuss goals/ interests, ambitions, and stylistic preferences.
We will work towards song selections from both myself and the student, so we can balance modern and classical repertoire.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
•20+ years playing piano.
•10 years teaching privately.
•Bachelors degreee in Jazz piano performance from San Francisco State University.
•15+ years performing in the Bay Area.
•10+ years as an audio and recording engineer.
