About
As a private piano instructor, I teach sight-reading and classical technique for the beginner to the intermediate student. I also teach pop, rock, jazz, and R&B music and self-accompaniment techniques for students who want to play and sing. My lesson plans are individualized for each student’s capabilities and interests. I have a large pool of books, exercises, classical repertoire, pop tunes, and theory lesson plans to pull from. I prepare each student with a performance repertoire and teach memorization skills for recital time.
I enjoy teaching, and helping each individual student discover their musical learning style. I love seeing my students learn and grow over time.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first step in working with a new student is to assess what they may already know from previous music lessons, what they want to learn from me, their musical interests, and what their personal learning style is. I then begin to lay ground work that we can build on including sight reading abilities, technique, and theoritical knowledge of scales and chords as well as the ability to play all major/minor scales and chords. Students who are interested in pop and jazz will be taught all types of seventh chords and abilities to read from a lead sheet. Classically interested students will focus on technique, scales, and musical expression. Of course, every student can request to combine both interests in their lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken private piano lessons since I was a little girl, at age seven. In college I studied piano performance and music theory. I've learned from teachers in the styles of blues, pop, and jazz. I have taught students between the ages of five and eighteen for the past five years have had very positive experiences with all ages. I am great with kids, patient, and flexible with all learning styles and musical preferences.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40 for a half hour lesson. This price helps to cover my travel expenses or rental costs if I am teaching out of a studio. I do not currently have a home studio to teach from, so I travel to my students homes or teach at Piedmont Piano in Oakland, Jams Music in Dublin, Forest Music in Berkeley, or at Chabot College in Hayward.
I also teach 45 minute lessons for a $50 and hour lessons for $70.
