About
Hello! I'm a violinist and composer based in the Bay Area (California, USA). I've been teaching for over 40 years (though I still feel young!). I accept new students ages 7 and up and any level, including teen and beginning adults. I also love teaching intermediated advanced violinists who want to try out some new directions.
Please note: IF YOU ARE SEEKING LESSONS FOR A CHILD UNDER 15, I ONLY DO IN-PERSON LESSONS in Oakland CA.
I only teach 60 minute lessons.
If you are an adult beginner outside of the San Francisco Bay Area, I highly suggest you find someone in your area to do in-person lessons.
Also, I teach Tuesday-Fridays from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. PST.
I only teach online lessons for intermediate to advanced players.
I don't teach viola or cello.
I approach lessons in a collaborative way--guiding students to improve skills such as tone, intonation, improvisation, reading music, playing ergonomically, music theory and composition, playing back up, musicality and of course playing repertoire itself. I pull from a wide variety of musical styles from folk styles including Balkan, Swedish, Celtic, klezmer, Sephardic to jazz to Western classical music. I enjoy being a bridge between folk musicians who would like to improve their (music) reading/transcribing skills; classical musicians who want to explore folk and fiddle styles and improvising; and everything in between. I'm a violinist but I work with instrumentalists of all stripes, even those without a bow on skills like improvising, composing and effective practicing. I meet you where you are and I believe that encouragement and inspiration go much farther than old-school shame and humiliation! I teach Tuesday-Friday by appointment. Call or text 510-798-6959 for more information or email me at [email protected]
I do weekly lessons unless you're an advanced player, and then 2 lessons per month is fine. Many people do 90-minute lessons if they're only coming 2x/month.
