About
I've trained in the martial arts for 40+ years and have been teaching for about 35 of them, across both Northern and Southern California. I'm a striker at heart — a stand-up fighter through and through. I'm not big on groundwork, but I keep it sharp just in case it's ever needed.
My background includes Western boxing, karate, taekwondo, and Wun Hop Kuen Do (an offshoot of Kajukenbo, blending fluid kung fu, Kenpo, and practical street-fighting concepts), along with several other styles of kung fu. I'm currently developing my own original kung fu style, and I still love sparring and training alongside other martial artists to keep sharpening my own skills and knowledge.
I teach the non-Western way: no colored belts ceremony for its own sake. Here, advancement is earned through time, experience, and real skill — not fabric around your waist. I hold several black belt degrees, but that's not what I lead with. I'd rather see a student excited about getting stronger and sharper than chasing another belt color that doesn't mean much on its own.
My classes are built around technique, conditioning, focus, and commitment — paired with self-discipline and self-confidence. I want every student to leave able to walk with their head held high, knowing they can achieve what they set out to achieve, no matter what anyone else says to or about them. It's doable.
Above all, I teach people to protect themselves — without fear, by any means necessary — grounded in discipline, confidence, courage, strength, mindfulness, and kindness.
