I specialize in modern guitar and piano styles (1960s-2000s) ranging from rock, pop, folk, jazz, blues, and reggae. I also cater to students that would like to sing and play simultaneously -- but are having trouble "putting it all together."
My ideal student is the one who knows what they want to achieve, with a strong desire to learn. I will help you achieve that with a highly personalized program involving rhythm and ear training, technique, and approaches that are specific to the style(s) you want to study.
A private instructor for over 10 years, I come highly recommended, with a high rate of success. I've held student performances at world-renowned venues such as The Whisky-A-Go-Go and The Roxy, and have directed several music camps throughout the years. Apart from teaching, my passion is performing, and am active in several LA bands that perform weekly.
I've taught all ages, from 3 to 65 years of age. My only requirement is that you are serious about learning, and seek to make music a permanent part of your life -- whether it's for pure enjoyment in your off time, or if you're looking to elevate your craft to a professional, performance-ready level.
Over the years that I have spent developing my guitar playing skills with Javier, he's helped me grow from barely being able to play "Smoke on the Water" to performing "Stairway to Heaven" onstage at the Whiskey A Go Go. Javier does an amazing job at helping anyone develop their musical talents, while simultaneously providing friendship and guidance for years to come. I highly recommend him to anyone that is serious about guitar and music in general.
