About

Guitar and Harmonica lessons with me take place in the following locations: at student's home in the Los Angeles area or my studio in Santa Monica. Guitar techniques taught include; rhythm guitar, lead guitar, fingerpicking, slide guitar in open and standard tuning. Song writing with recording and production services available also.

It has been said that, "it is the duty and responsibility of a Musician to pass the knowledge they have onto the next generation".

Albert Einstein was quoted saying, "Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty. It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge".

These two above philosophies are the foundation for me as a teacher. There is nothing more rewarding than the twinkle in the student's eyes, as they "get it" regarding the lesson.

When a student sits with me I make it a fun and friendly lesson sometimes referred to as a "good hang" which makes for a great learning experience.

At my disposal are five plus decades of knowledge I have accumulated to impart on playing the instruments (Guitar and Harmonica) to start out beginners, (young & old) hobbyists and pro's.

For more info and booking drop me a hello at the contact page. To get a comprehensive understanding for what I do, please go to the music and video sections of the website and take a look and listen.

Sincerely,

Leon Rubenhold

Leon is a great player and teacher as well. He has a lifetime of experience, He has played with many big name acts and knows many people in the music business. He knows tons of songs and can easily figure out new music on the spot. He has a great ear for music. He can comp, improvise and arrange with minimal effort. Leon is highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions

Generally I ask a few questions for potential students,

1.Do you have any playing experience with the instrument ?

2.What kind of instrument if any do you have ?

3.;What is your desire or goal from learning to play ?

4. What kind of music/favorite artists, etc. do you like and ultimately want to learn to play ?

5. How dedicated are you to putting in the necessary practice time ?

I have five plus decades of recording, live local and touring performance experiences , dozens of students young and old.

Best left to a one on one conversation with the student but I try to work within the student's budget. The money is important but secondary to passing the knowledge forward to someone who is really eager and has a passion for learning.

The obvious answer initially was to supplement my income, but as I continued to teach I found a great satisfaction in passing the knowledge forward to those who really benefit from it.

I have worked with many students, children of all ages and adults including seniors.

There are many and they are all based apon that "aha" moment when the light goes on and the student "gets it" in regard to what is being taught.

Make sure the teacher has patience, flexible with time /date schedules, and especially is a "good hang" where the learning experience is fun and exciting.

see previous answer above. 8-)
