What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Ask what they've learned so far, what are their favorite styles, what are their short term and long term goals with the instrument. Introduce finger exercises, single note patterns, basic chord shapes, left hand and right hand technique, and excerpts from their favorite songs
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Johnny Blade has been playing guitar for over 30 years, and has been teaching guitar for over 20 years. Johnny earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance from DePaul University School of Music, Chicago, IL. and an Encore Program Certificate from Musician's Institute, Hollywood, CA
Johnny Blade currently plays in heavy metal band NightSword, Ozzy tribute band OzzMania, Kelle Rhoads Band, The Young Royals, Sonia Harley, and is a frequent performer at the world famous Whisky A-GoGo's Ultimate Jam Night, and Randy Rhoads Remembered concert series

How did you get started teaching?
In high school, friends would ask me to show them how to play certain songs. In college I began taking on private students and also taught at a local music store. I have continued teaching private guitar lessons through the years traveling to students homes. With online technology I now focus on guitar lessons through Skype and Zoom Meeting
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages from children, to giging musicians, to retired people looking to bring back their favorite hobby

In the past few years I have been playing with more bands and jam nights than ever before, and enjoy sharing insight about playing with my students
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who likes the same musical styles you are into, with experience in teaching to achieve your goals with the instrument
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals as a musician? As a hobby, to play for and with groups of friends, to join a local band and play gigs, or to become a national act and tour the world
