    Frequently asked questions

With many professional at our school, a free consultation with one or more will help you discover the right instructor for you! Typically, lessons are 1/2 hour per week, with additional time available by arrangement.  We have students here as young as 3 and as old as....well, challenge us!

All instructors at Calliope are professional and experienced. Many are members of Colorado State Music Teachers Association, NATS, Guild, etc.

Instructor fees vary.  Most charge a monthly fee to include 1/2 hour each week.  The range for this is either side of $100/m depending on the instructor.

Many instructors at Calliope have taught for 20-40 years! Typically beginning after a music education or performance degree.

Among instructors at Calliope Music Studios are those with certain specialties.  For instance, we can offer guitar lessons for any style including: classical, rock, folk, bass, uke.  Piano lessons may include classical, pop, jazz and improv, composition.  We also specialize in left hand alone lessons for piano students, and students who are blind or vision impaired.

String lessons may include Suzuki style.  Vocal instruction available in classical, pop, broadway, etc.  Vocal coaching available.

Brass and woodwind instructors for beginning through advanced.

Many of us attend the CSMTA state conference, and the National MTNA as well.  Both help us discover new methods of teaching, and remain excited about music education.  Some of us have been singing with the Denver Opera Collective in the Summers.

Visit first.  Be comfortable with the instructor's demeanor, and teaching space.  Remember that an excellent performer may not be an excellent instructor.  Teaching experience counts the most.  Commitment is involved, ask questions.

Ask about any agreements or policies.  Month to month payments may be best at first.

Have a goal.  For instance:  I want to sing in a rock band some day!  I want to be able to play some Chopin or Mozart within a few years!  Not sure what I want to do with it, but I'd love to play violin!  I'm goin to sing in school chorus, and need to read better.  For little kids, sometimes parents just want them to have fun and be able to play in concerts.  Got this here guitar, and want to rock it!

All these are typically valid, and good openers for a first visit.
