Dennis Morrissey Guitar Lessons
About
My teaching approach:
My teaching is limited to classical guitar. I very much enjoy working with beginning students of all ages, as they have no preconceived notions or bad habits. I have worked for more than 30 years with Phillip deFremery (former student of Andres Segovia). Phil formerly taught classical guitar at the Aspen Music Festival , and the Juilliard School. Phil's students have included Benjamin Verdery, Eliot Fisk, Sharon Isbin and others. Working with Phil has provided me with tremendous insights that I enjoy passing on to other players.
My influences are:
Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, Oscar Ghiglia, Phil deFremery
My guitar lessons take place in:
The teacher's studio or the student's home
Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:
Southwestern Fairfield County (Fairfield through Greenwich)
Guitar Techniques:
Fingerstyle, Performance, Reading Music, Scales and Exercises
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:
Observe right hand and left hand technique, and assess the student's musical understanding from basic etudes.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:
Beginning with an introduction to musical phrasing and sound generation in simple etudes and a strong emphasis on proper technique development, then on to challenging etudes where the student develops technically and muscially, simulteously.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
One who is willing to put the effort in to develop playing abilities, enjoys life, and realizes that classical guitar playing is a journey, not a destination.
