Pete Walrath Guitar Instruction
About
I have 26 years of teaching experience, giving private guitar instruction in Northern Fairfield County, CT since 1994. I help students achieve their personal goals and build a firm musical foundation and a solid understanding of our system of music. My students excel because I am creative about finding ways to give them the whole package while keeping our lessons fun! Anyone willing to practice can become a good, or GREAT player...and if you want that then I'm the guide you are looking for!
I absolutely love sharing my expertise with anyone who has a passion for music. The intersection of art and intellect which the pursuit of music invites is fascinating to me. I could talk about it all day.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If a child, depending on age I evaluate their readiness to begin, or otherwise I establish their ability level, experience and goals. I have them begin a running list of music they enjoy, so as to get a good idea of what inspires them. I also begin offering listening suggestions. Our lessons get underway with focus on building repertoire while learning theory and hopefully musical notation along the way.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Music degree with a Jazz Performance concentration.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Please call for rates. Or better yet, text me.
How did you get started teaching?
I was playing a guitar in a music store one afternoon and the owner asked if I taught lessons. I said, "I do now!"
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and abilities, 6 years old to 60. I enjoy teaching everyone, especially adults and retirees. I've had great success with the kindergarten set as well!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find somebody who is willing to do what it takes to give you a real music education. Make sure they have professional training themselves. And please...learn to read notes!
