About
I love teaching rock and jazz piano! After becoming disenchanted with "Old School" piano lessons as a kid, I discovered how different and fun it is to study rock and jazz piano. It is more intuitive, fun, creative, and exciting. I teach based chords and rhythms rather than exclusively reading notes (I recommend spending only about 10% of practice time working on reading notes). For new beginners, I generally have you playing Let It Be on the first day, and 3 fun rock songs within 1-2 months. I also teach intermediate and more advanced rock, as well as beginning and intermediate jazz. I cater lessons to each student's interests. I really enjoy teaching - more than I enjoy performing.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Generally, I start by helping students know all their major and minor chords in the right hand, then we work on inversions, and pair it with simple bass structures in the left hand. If you're a beginner, I'll teach you to play "Let it Be" on the first day! I promise you'll be playing most of it by the end of the lesson! If you've been playing a while, I'll assess your level first, as well as your interests. We'll work on chord and scale drills, as needed (they are fun and the quickest way to be able to play charts (from chords) easily). I'll also work with you on one or more songs for every lesson. I'll help you choose songs that suit your current level from your favorite singers and bands. I will help you learn to back a singer or instrumentalist - and even better if you want to sing along to your own playing! If you're interested, we can move on to jazz theory and tunes once you have mastered the basics with rock. We'll have a good time. I'll encourage you a lot, and help with musicality as well as theory and practice technique. My goal is to get you playing fun songs and improving very quickly - I have more than a decade of experience doing so, and have had lots of success with many students over the years. Looking forward to helping you achieve your music goals and enjoy the process...
