About this pro

I love French Horn and brass instruments. I love teaching students. I have the ability to approach teaching from different angles. I am able to connect with students not just as a teacher , but also as someone who is passionate about their success and learning as young musicians.

One of my favorite things to see is when a child finally grasps a concept that they've been working on for some time. Seeing a childs face light up with pride at gaining a skill is a huge win to me. I have been teaching on and off for 5 years. I've taught piano & voice. I am finishing my Music Education degree this year with pland to graduate in the spring. I have been playing French Horn for 17 going on 18 years now. I have been playing trumpet for 14 years. I have been playing piano 10 years.

FAQs

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am finishing a degree in Music Education. I went to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts for high school. I have played in bands since I was 11. I have played in orchestras since I was 12. I have been teaching music and other subjects for 5 years now.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Yes. My standard pricing is $30 for half an hour. An hour is $50.

How did you get started teaching?

I started student teaching at the age of 17. I got my first real student whenn I was in my second year of college. I had had many years of lessons at this point and had an idea to start giving my own. I started making up flyers and cards and posting them around my neighborhood. I met a woman with a young boy. He was 2 years old at the time. The woman saw me putting up flyers and stopped me to talk about me maybe teaching her son piano. I gladly accepted and the little boy became my first private student.

What types of students have you worked with?

I've worked with kids of all backgrounds. I've worked with kids with special needs and cares, as well as kids with autism and ADD/ADHD. I have ADD/ADHD so i bring an ability to understand and assist kids who have time management issues or troubles focusing. I use music to help them improve their skills in those areas. I also use practice time as a time for them to focus on something they really love. I find that music helps people focus better on other subjects..it expands their creativity and thus improves their other skills.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Look for a teacher whom you think you'll connect with. Think of some qualities or things you want to learn from this person so you have a clue of what you're looking for.
