About this pro

My teaching approach: teaches each student with an individalized program tailored to the students interest and goals. Has taught over 15,000 hours and over 800 students. Has done a lot of touring accompanying singers and has done extensive arranging for solo fingerstyle guitar. His resume and recordings can be found at feepmusic.comMy influences are: Mostly James Burton & John Fahey. Clarence White, Steve Cropper, Steve Stills, Neil Young, Jerry Garcia, Chet Atkins, and practically every guitarist I've heard and liked from the 30's through the 60's.My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studioGuitar Techniques: Guidance In Equipment Selection, Recording and Production, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Music Theory, Reading Music, Jamming Skills, Improvisation, Performance, Vocal Accompaniment, Slide Guitar, Fingerstyle, Open tuning, Rhythm guitar, Lead guitarYour first guitar lesson with me might include the following: Chords and reading tab, strumming and minor pentatonic scales if they want to play lead and they are complete beginners. I observe their playing and get what they think their weak points are, and coordinate what I'm going to teach them based on their goals. In other words I determine where they are and where they want to get and work out an effecient way to get them there.A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: If the student has never played I teach basic open position chords in a certain order that goes from easier to harder and how to strum. I then teach them some songs (that they have heard before and like). If they already play I ask them what difficulties or questions they have, observe their playing and fill in the missing gaps. This is how I also teach an advanced or pro layer. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: Anyone who really wants to learn (not just the guitar, but how music works).
