Jesse Lazcano Piano Lessons
About
How goes it, students!!! My name is Jesse Lazcano, well-trained pianist and bonafide music enthusiast. I have been playing the keyboard for well over 25 years and I feel inclined to pass on this rich experience to others. If your interest lies in jazz piano, look nowhere else. If you're looking to better your classical chops, come to me! And if you just really want to learn how to play contemporary, read music, or simply play by ear, I'd be more than willing to show you the ropes! A brief record of my merit:
- Won numerous awards in the Federation of Music Clubs
- Studied at Interlochen Music Academy in Michigan
- Earned a B.A in 'Commercial Music' at FAU
- Played with renowned heads such as Chloe Dolanids, Nestor Torres, Ira Sullivan.
My approach tends to be open and liberal. First its important to get a fair idea of what you want to learn, and so I'll tailor my lesson to fit your needs. I also think that sharing music motivates the student, so we'll do alot of listening! Looking forward to meeting you! Enjoy the summer!! - Jesse Lazcano

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Firstly, I'd like to know what the end goal is for the student. Does he or she want to pick up jazz, classical, rock, or R&B styles? It is important because it allows me to recommend the necessary steps that will help the student reach that goal. If the student has never touched a piano, teaching the scales and major/minor triad chords comes first. I feel it is incumbent for all students to get a handle on essential music theory because it will be applied to whatever path they choose to take.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
With 25+ years of experience on the piano, I have undergone tutelage from several teachers and mentors. In highschool I was accepted to Interlochen Academy at Michigan for the Summer program with a concentration in classical studies. I have also studied Jazz at the University of North Florida and obtained my Bachelors in 'Commercial Music' at Florida Atlantic Universtiy, Boca Raton.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Every student to me is a case by case basis. Depending on the economic situation of my student, the prices vary. (Typically $30-$50 for an hour or more)
How did you get started teaching?
9 years ago at the School of rock. They provided me students and I taught them whilst developing a system for beginners.
Over the years, I have been teaching both privately and under contract for studios.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages.. 5-75
Some have never started on the piano, while there others who are vaguely familiar with the rudiments. And occassionaly, some who arrive with decent chops with the goal to sharpen their technique.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Before the pandameic, I was part of a pit orchestra for the performance of 'Carnival of the Animals'.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you know what you want in the long haul. If not, that's okay.. Exploring different avenues of music will help clearly determine what you're mostly passionate about.
Also, 'LISTEN' to records!!! Appreciate the music before learning it!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do you wish to learn piano for the fun of it, or do you wish to invest your time in studying the instrument, so much as to the point of making a living out of it?
