Sunland Guitars & Music
About
Hey! My name's Erik Ulven and I own Sunland Guitars & Music of Daytona Beach, FL. I've been playing guitar for about 12 years now and I've been working on them and building them for about 10 years. I consider myself to be a great teacher for beginners because I not only have a great beginner course but I also teach my students how to properly take care of their guitar. My love for guitars comes from an admiration for the guitar itself because if you don't take care of your guitar, your playing will suffer and I want to pass that on to as many people as I can. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Beginner students will start with learning the notes on the guitar and basic chords. We will then progress into chord progressions, scales, and basic songs. I also teach my students proper guitar maintenance to make sure their instrument is always at peak performance.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started playing piano at the age of 8 and I've been playing guitar for 12 years. For maintenance experience I've worked on over 6,000 stringed instruments from basic set ups to major structural repairs and custom paint jobs.
How did you get started teaching?
$30 per half hour
What types of students have you worked with?
I only work with beginners who have little to no experience or students who haven't played in a while.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
As a student you should be thinking about what kind of music you want to play with your guitar. If you know, look up your favorite artist and see what kind of guitar, amp, pedal, etc they play and try to buy a guitar and equipment close to theirs. Your guitar instructor should be able to guide you to the path of playing like your favorite artist once you know your direction.
