About

My teaching approach:

Throughout my experience as a player I have been exposed to just about every style of music. Having played in several different bands ranging from Rock-Jazz-Blues-Caribbean-Funk I have been able to develop a broad vocabulary. I have also studied under some of the best guitar players in the business. I teach my students based on a combination of strategies I learned from my past teachers that helped me the most as a player. The most important factor being the love of the guitar and music. Another main factor being the discipline involved with developing as a musician.

My influences are:

I have many influences in music, mainly because I was bought up listening to many different styles of music. When it comes to guitar playing some of my biggest influences are Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny and many other players. My first real guitar teacher introduced me to some of my favorite styles including Blues, Jazz, and Rock. He also taught me the raw passion in guitar music and I developed a love for the instrument. From that stemmed a variety of other styles. All of which I continue to play today. The most important aspect is the LOVE of the MUSIC.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I would first introduce myself and get to know the student. If they do have a basic understanding of the guitar and how to play I would ask them to play something and get an idea of their ability. If they cannot play anything yet I would give them an overview of the guitar and how its played, held, strummed etc.. I would then teach them something very basic (a basic chord or a couple notes). I would then take some time to discuss the student's musical goals and develop a strategy with them to help them reach it. Following the lesson I will write down the first assignment in their notebook.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I would start by reviewing material assigned the previous week and asses his/her performance. I would then review any mistakes and answer any questions the student may have. Once we have addressed questions and corrected mistakes we will move on to new topics. Following the new material I will assign my student another weekly assignment and repeat the cycle the following week. I am always open to discussing new concepts the students discover throughout the week and answer any questions they may have. We will also spend a lot of time listening to music related to the lesson material.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal student is one who: 1) Is prepared for each lesson. 2) Pays attention and focuses during lessons. 3) Practices! 4) Asks questions and equally participates in lessons. 5) LOVES MUSIC!
