Ms. Toni’s Strings
About
I am a professional Double Bass player with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. As a proficient multi-instrumentalist, I am able to teach all stringed instruments, such as the violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele. With experience coaching and mentoring students who have a passion for songwriting, it has helped them become effective, dynamic, and knowledgeable songwriters.
I teach strings to students of all different ages and proficiency levels. I am a classically trained musician with 20 years experience, with 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. My competency and versatility as a musician has given me the opportunity to work with children in the public school systems, after school programs, recreational centers, local events, and statewide competitions and conventions.
Every instrument has a unique timbre, so I teach students what their chosen instrument's role is and what it's specific sound is used for. I believe that "practice makes progress," so I encourage each student to practice consistently and efficiently. By applying foundational techniques during practice and performance, it will aid in their continual growth and progress as a musician.
Depending on the goals and preference of the student - no matter the instrument - I highly encourage each of my students to learn to read music/chord sheets, understand and maneuver their instruments fluidly, and challenge themselves to pursue music in any and every way they can.
I firmly believe that learning technique and theoretical knowledge is essential to learning any instrument and any style. Focused practice sessions and learning how to listen actively instead of passively will shape a well-rounded musician, and as the teacher, achieving this with every student is my goal and my passion.
I very much look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the first lesson with a student, it’s important to get to know one another. I like to find out about each student’s interests outside music as well as what their interest is in learning the particular instrument they’re starting to learn.
I then like to follow up with my experience and history as a musician so they get to know me as well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors in Music from Florida State University, specializing in Double Bass (and string instruments). I have over a decade of professional symphony orchestra experience, and over a decade of teaching experience as well
I currently manage and teach at Universal Rock School in Largo, FL and have a private lesson studio of over 20 students and growing. I’m still actively gigging around the Tampa Bay Area as a double bassist and bass guitarist for orchestras, musicals, and anything that comes my way!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I primarily teach at Universal Rock School, so I book all my private lessons through there.
We offer a trial lesson for only $15, and following that it’s $120/month for four 30-minute lessons, one per week. There are no contracts involved but we bill lessons on a month-to-month basis.
