About
Hello! My name is Mark Shian and I'm a professional musician and teacher based in Ellenton, FL. I live close to Ellenton Outlets.
I teach lessons from beginner to advanced for electric / acoustic guitar and piano.
I take pride in helping all my students gain a solid understanding of their instrument and learn how to dynamically express themselves with key concepts that professionals use. I also focus on teaching students how to improvise and create parts. I will make sure you understand foundational music theory, understand chord and scale construction, learn all your notes, etc. but the primary focus will be to make you a better more dynamic guitar and piano player.
I also teach studio recording, mixing and mastering, for those interested in starting their own recording studio. I have 10+ years playing live and recording albums.

I look forward to working with you to help you acheive your goals in music. When you succeed, I succeed!
I love being able to share and impart my years of knowledge and experience to students that are passionate about improving in their instrument. I strive to take my student's playing ability moving forward as quickly as possible and develop their ability to improvise and play their favorite songs. I also give all my students a strong foundation in their understanding of theory principles which will help them be more confident in their ability in the long run.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually start off with an evaluation lesson to determine where the student is at in their playing ability. I then tailor a custom program to get the student going on the right path to improving their playing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a studio and recording musician for 10+ years and have years of experience playing on stage for the worship arena. I'm also a recording engineeer and have released my own albums which can be heard on itunes, google play, etc. I am also an online instructor and I have taught thousands of students from all over the world through my online courses.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $50 per hour paid monthly. So its $200 for a 4 week month and $250 for a 5 week month. This fee is paid on the first lesson of the month.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching when people began approaching me after my stage shows asking me to help them with their playing. After getting enough requests I decided that I was going to expand my career by sharing all my knowledge and experience with the world and give back after years of being poured into by other professionals.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students from all walks of life, young and old. Beginner to advanced.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The recording and filming of my music video "Still My Everything" which was produced with the Philharmonia of Kansas City Orchestra.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would first make sure he has an online profile and that he is a great musician that inspires you. Music is difficult and if you learn from someone who's boring or not as inspiring you won't really progress. Find someone who inspires you and that knows how to impart that knowledge in a way that's easy to understand. Also make sure the teacher has passion for teaching as this makes a huge difference!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Definitely ask about what specific genre they're looking to learn and if the teacher can accomodate. As well as long term learning plan.
