About
Besides having more than 40 years of experience playing guitar, my experience as a music journalist and critic (Rolling Stone, Spin, the Village Voice, CMJ, Guitar World, Guitar Player, JazzTimes) has exposed me to nearly every form of music.
Teaching helps me learn more about what I'm teaching. I learn from the student as he/she learns from me.

Tony taught me just about everything I know in the funk realm and made understanding harmony, especially while playing with a keyboardist, much easier. Dude knows what he’s doing. Grateful for my time with him.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find out what kind of music they like, usually by asking them favorite songs, artists, etc. Then I ask them what goals they have in terms of techniques, tunes, and so forth. Then I listen to them play, and then determine the course of action.
