About

We are a long-established school celebrating three decades of success in music education in the Sarasota area. We offer classical music instruction at a deep level, in the hands of veteran teachers who love their art and love to share it through teaching. We offer instruction in the traditional method for piano, violin, viola, guitar and percussion. Our Suzuki-based instruction is focused on violin and guitar. The Suzuki Method is a long-established and highly effective method of musical instruction that has a worldwide reputation and track record of success, especially for beginners, early childhood and young musicians. Our students span the spectrum from beginners to advanced, and range in age from two to eighty years old.

The mission of the Suzuki Institute School of Music is to instill a love and respect for music that will enrich its students throughout their lives, and to promote early childhood intellectual, cultural and character development through the teaching philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki that incorporates musical instrument instruction, parent involvement and community performances.

Our school attracts students and families of all backgrounds, ages and skill levels. They come here out of a love of music and form a community of fellow-learners. We get to share with them our passion for music education and see them grow and succeed in their goals to begin their musical journey and become more skilled musicians. We help people enrich their lives and connect to art. It is a wonderful feeling when that happens.

    Frequently asked questions

After an initial interview and meeting with the student and/or the family, we match the student with one of our teachers who can best support their learning. The teacher determines an appropriate curriculum and the student begins with a schedule of one lesson a week at a fixed time, usually following the academic year.

Our teachers are deeply trained and experts in their fields. Most have advanced degrees (including doctorates in music) and all have had professional careers as musicians and teachers. Many of them have been teaching for thirty years or more and the school itself has been in existence since 1989.

    Monthly Tuition

Our billing is based on a yearly tuition price broken into ten installments for the academic year, from August to May. Lesson plans are based on one lesson per week, with the exception of holidays.

(Prices include an additional eight Violin/Guitar group classes per semester for those enrolled in Suzuki Violin/Guitar.)
