Christina Ma'at's Strings Lessons
About
Be an accomplished violinist in record time and learn violin from Christina McGarr. She also offers viola lessons, guitar, cello, music theory and more.
Violin is a discipline but also a cherishable gift. I enjoy making a difference in the minds of young musicians and learning more from them each day. As I learn from my students they learn from me, because I am able to customize the lessons by each student's learning styles.

Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing violin for 14 years. It's been a long journey of hard work and discipline. I attended Fisk University as a Music Performance Major and studied under Sefan Petrescu, world renowned violinist from the Black Sea Orchestra in Romania.

How did you get started teaching?
Believe it or not, I started teaching and tutoring violin in the 5th grade. Orchestra students asked for help and I stayed after school spending hours helping my fellow students out of the zeal for music and helping my colleagues. I continued on until I started attending college. At Fisk university, I wotked with the THRUST program tutoring strings students from the local public schools.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience working with all ages. I have worked for 2 companies that give lessons to music students of all ages. (Carpe Artista in Smyrna, TN & Sam Ash Music Stores in Madison, TN).
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It is important to know what your goals are with music. Ask yourself:
Why do I want to play this instrument?
What will motivate me to practice and to continue my music education?
What do I plan on doing with music in the future?
What are the easiest ways for me to learn? (ie. memorization, hands-on learning, etc)
How will I use this talent?
Have I set realistic goals for myself?
Am I sure this is the right instrument for me?
(Parents) Is my child attentive enough to play an instrument? Does my child have a true passion or talent for music? Am I pressuring my child to learn an instrument or am I giving them space to make that descion on their own?
