About
I have been a music teacher since age 16. I not only teach beginning to intermediate piano. I also teach beginning guitar and soprano recorder (a Renaissance and Baroque period instrument). I include simple to intermediate Music Theory instruction as well, in order to facilitate a thorough understanding of music and how it works. With a strong working knowledge of the whys of music, comes a greater pleasure in its performance, and the ability of the performer to potentially engage in the creation of their own music (not to mention the ability to play well in a group setting for yet a higher level of achievement and enjoyment). In my time as an instructor, many of my students have gone on to achieve high-level awards in competitions. Many have gone on to perform in musical theater, churches, talent shows, and university settings to great accolades. Also, in my time as an instructor (mostly in my own studio), my greatest pleasure has come with my youngest pupils watching them discover abilities they never knew possible and seeing them come to love quality music as much as I do. I look forward to assisting a new generation of musicians in the making. In His Joyful Song - Miss Lori

Interview your teacher. Come with your questions, desires, and goals. Seek out an instructor that will not only challenge you but listen to your needs as a student and a person. Be prepared to work hard to reach your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your reasons for pursuing music? What do you ultimately see music lessons achieving for you? Do I really have the time to tackle this? Am I willing to sacrifice the time to make this endeavor worth my while?
