About

My teaching approach:

Good time while absorbing a plethora of knowledge. Students are encouraged, but not required to read music. I focus a lot on ear training and knowing where to go with it on your instrument once you recognize it. We do alot of recording during lessons.

My influences are:

I started off with classic rock and I still love and teach any and all of it. My influences are too numerous to mention. Some of them are: Richard Thompson, J.J. Cale, Bruce Cockburn, Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Bob Weir, David Lindley, Ry Cooder.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:

Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Guitar Techniques:

Guidance In Equipment Selection, Recording and Production, Song Writing, Scales and Exercises, Music Theory, Reading Music, Jamming Skills, Improvisation, Performance, Vocal Accompaniment, Slide Guitar, Fingerstyle, Open tuning, Rhythm guitar, Lead guitar

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I will ask you to bring along any books or notes that you have, if any. I get to know the student and their interests. What direction we start off in relies on the students goals and aspirations.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I will first ask you what you have practiced in the previous week. Whether it is an assignment I have given you or something you have discovered on your own, this gives me the insight I need to tailor your lesson to your interests and keep you moving forward.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

The best students are present every week (or most), has gone over what we talked about in the previous lesson, and often brings up new things that he/she has recently discovered. I love questions!
