Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will sit down and find out what you already know and what you want to learn. I have experience working with complete beginners to experienced players.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Omaha Blues Society Alumni
Studied music theory, jazz theory, history of classical music, jazz, blues, pop, rock, and hip-hop at the University of Iowa.
Performing guitarist with several bands and hundreds of gigs under my belt.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$20 per 30 minute lesson or $75/month paid upfront (4 lessons).
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching friends and family and realized how enjoyable it is to watch someone catch on to the instrument I've devoted so much time to. A musician should never stop growing, and I found that teaching others has helped me learn new things myself.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with complete beginners (children under 10 that have never touched a guitar before), intermediate students that have some experience but don't know where to go next, and slightly more advanced players that know the basics but are looking for someone to show them things that they weren't able to find in method books or on the internet.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Just remeber, these lessons are for YOU! Make sure your teacher is there to help you with your goals and is able to work at your speed - not working through lesson plans designed for someone else.
I constantly remind my student that I'm there to work for them. Whatever you're interested in or struggling with should be our focus - otherwise lessons quickly stop being fun (and we don't want that to happen!)
