Jang's Yong In Martial Arts is dedicated to teaching Hapkido, Yongmoodo, Teakwondo, Self-defense and Weapons. The emphasis is on gaining the confidence and health benefits of Martial Arts. Confidence comes from a learning a wide range of techniques to protect yourself in situation as varied as slipping on the ice to defeating multiple attackers. The health benefits come from learning in a supportive environment with experienced teachers led by Grandmaster Mi Jung Jang.

Grandmaster Mi jung jang was born in Seoul, South Korea In 1977 she started Tae kwon do and received her black belt in 1979. In 1983 she began her Hapkido training. Six years later she entered the Hapkido program at one of the first schools to offer a college degree in Martial Arts, Yong In University, where she graduated first in her class in 1994 with a major in Hapkido and minors in Tae kwon do, Yongmoodo, Yudo, Haidong Gumdo, Ssirum (Korean Wrestling), and boxing. Grandmaster Mi Jung Jang is a world Champion in full contact fighter.

Following a career as an Full Contact Mixed Martial Arts Champion, Grandmaster Jang has been teaching in the United States for over 20 years. During that time she has adapted the classic Korean Martial Arts so that different classes are optimized for different kids and adult classes. The school's curriculum encourages life long learning from White Belt through multiple levels of Black Belt.

I personally enjoy making a difference in peoples lives.

Teaching people how to reach a new level beyond their imagination.

Sef-defense is a way of live, let's live it together.

I absolutely love the people, facilities, and training program. Ive been a student at Jangs Yong In Martial Arts for almost 5 years, but it feels like I just arrived due to the continued excitement and interest. The Masters really get to know each student. They make us feel at home. They care about our growth and safety. Ive been able to realize numerous lifelong dreams and personal goals there, including enrolling my daughter in the kids program. Ive been with Grand Master Jang for over 3 years now, starting as a White belt and continuing my Martial Arts education as a 1st degree Black belt, I love and admire their discipline and passion to pass on their knowledge in the Korean art of self defense HAPKIDO and their friendly and respectful attitude towards everyone that has made us feel like a part of a family instead of only a group of students.

Grandmaster Jang and Master Russom invest fully in your success in martial arts. They are patient and kind, and you do not feel any judgement from your peers as you learn new techniques. This is a safe space to learn, a clean space to learn, and an enriching place to learn. Everyone is welcome, but actually made to FEEL welcome. I would recommend this environment to anyone with the full confidence that they will be walking into a place they can truly be a part of. Coming here to learn martial arts has changed my life in helping me feel more outgoing and brave, while also helping me feel more connected and mindful. On a final note, their pricing is fair and offers the best value of any other place in the area. I think you can tell that I cannot say enough good about Jangs Yong in Martial Arts!

My son absolutely loves his classes and his teachers. It has helped his focus and self-confidence tremendously. He loves it so much he asked me to take classes too so he can help me learn! (and of course I did - and love it just as much as he does!)

    Frequently asked questions

We start at the begining of our art.

It is most important that the student is prepared for success.

The foundation must be laid correctly so success can be achieved.

In 1977, she started Tae Kwon Do at Chung Do Kwan and received her first Degree Black Belt in 1979.  In 1983, she moved to Shin Lim Dong and began her Hapkido training under Master Gak Su Lee.  Six years later, she entered the Hapkido program of one of the top martial arts schools in the world, Yong In University.  Soon after starting her university training, Master Gak Su Lee suggested that she compete in I-Jung Kyuk Too Ki (All-Asia Korean Kickboxing) competition.  She competed from 1989 to 1991 and accumulated a record of 43 wins.

In 1991 she gave Hapkido lessons to high-school students in Kyoto, Japan.

After retiring from I-Jung Kyuk Too Ki, also known as K-1 Fighting Competition, Master Jang returned to Yong-In University.  She graduated first in her class in 1994 with a major in Hapkido, and minors in Tae Kwon Do, Yudo, Haedong Gumdo, Ssirum (Korean wrestling), and boxing.

A member of Korean Tigers, All-Stars, and Korean Pro-Hapkido demonstration team.

In 1995, Master Jang came to the US and taught at Hyun's Hapkido School.  She left Hyun's in 2003, and in 2004 she opened her own school, Jang's Martial Arts in Chicago Ill.
