Frequently asked questions

At Beyond Center Stage, we encourage all new students to do a one-time drop-in lesson or trial class to find the private instructor or class that is the best fit for them.  Once a teacher or class is selected, students enroll in weekly lessons and/or classes.  This ensures the student will receive consistency in training, as well as develop the necessary discipline needed to excel in his/her art form.  We also encourage students to participate in our end-of-year recital, although it is not mandatory.

All of the music and acting instructors at BCS have college degrees in their field and have been teaching private lessons for many years.  They are also all working musicians who regularly play/sing professionally in musicals, corporate events, and concerts.  All of our dance instructors have a college degree or comparable experience.  They are all accomplished performers, teachers, and choreographers.

BCS Co-Owner Sara Scheiner, began teaching private music lessons in 2006 after training in Speech Level Singing in Las Vegas, NV.  She started in public high schools in Grayslake, IL, as well as a private lesson studio in Wheaton, IL.  She opened Beyond Center Stage in 2009, and it quickly became the go-to studio for arts training in Elmhurst, IL.  Additional voice, piano, guitar, and dance instructors were brought on immediately, and BCS has since expanded to offering ukulele, bass, and flute lessons, as well as a competition dance team.  BCS Co-Owner Kourtney Klemczak began teaching during her college years in Kalamazoo, MI.  She taught in private studios upon moving back to the Chicagoland area, and joined BCS in 2013.  In 2016, she became a co-owner and dance director.

The instructors at Beyond Center Stage have worked with students ages 2 through 80, both hobbyists and professionals alike.  Our students have studied a variety of styles and disciplines, and many of them have gone on to pursue music, dance, and acting in college and professionally.

Not all instructors and studios are right for each student.  At BCS, we encourage students to try lessons and classes first in order to be sure they find the right instructor/class who can meet their individual needs.  We have instructors who may specialize in different techniques and genres.  It's important for students to have an idea as to what their personal goals are, in order that we can match them with the right instructor or class.  We ensure that all of our instructors are highly qualified, and that they will focus on student progress and correct technique.

Students should always consider what their goals are in taking lessons in the arts: Do they want help with an audition?  Do they want to fix a poor technique habit?  Do they want to learn to read music?  Knowing what their personal goals are is extremely important in teachers being able to set up a program and track progress for each individual student.  Also, students should think through their level of commitment and time that they are able to devote to lessons/class and practice.  Are they able to do a private lesson each week?  Are they able to practice 20 minutes each day?  Do they need a more flexible schedule?  Are they a more serious student who needs more lesson time?  Considering all of these questions will help students to get the most out of lessons, and achieve their goals more quickly!
