About this pro

- 10+ years experience

- Learn foundational skills and more while playing  your favorite songs!

- All ages welcome!!

I have had the opportunity to play a variety of instruments - ukulele, acoustic, electric and bass guitar, mountain dulcimer, banjo, and most recently lap steel guitar.

I've played with various groups - church bands, a traveling band that played at healthcare facilities and nursing homes, and currently a ukulele band that plays at festivals, malls, and around town.

As a teacher and musician, I enjoy helping people learn a new fun skill!!

I enjoy seeing the excitement on a student’s face when they’ve been able to successfully implement a particular skill and play their favorite songs!

Monica was great. She totally explained guitar when countless books and online videos only had me confused. After only a few lessons I was confident I would become a guitar player.

Monica is very patient and explains everything in detail. She listens to what your goals are in playing, takes into account your experience and then tailors your lessons to fit your needs. We couldn't have asked for a better teacher for our son.

Exactly what i was looking for, as a beginner i was trying to find the right techniques to learning and Monica truly provided that. She is someone who is ready and passionate to teach and really understands your pain points and works you through those.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

As a foundational instrument teacher I start with the finger positions, chords (no note reading required), strum patterns, rhythm and timing, and applying these new skills to your favorite songs.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a certified teacher with over 10 years experience playing instruments and playing in bands.

I love to help people learn a new skill!

How did you get started teaching?

I have always enjoyed learning about and playing music. As a school teacher I have always enjoyed teaching people.  The combination of my two loves come together perfectly to teach foundational skills and more for ukulele and acoustic guitar :)

What types of students have you worked with?

I work with acoustic guitar and ukulele students.  People of all ages that are new, or fairly new, to the intrument and would like to learn the foundational skills to play their favorite songs.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would look for a teacher who is passionate about learning music, playing instruments, and enjoys teaching. I would also look for a person who will challenge you to grow in your knowledge of your instrument. But most of all a teacher who makes learning fun!!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Learning to play an instrument is a ton of fun, but it takes committment on the student's part to practice.  When learning any new skill there is a learning curve. However, if you can stick with it you will be so impressed with all the songs you'll be able to play :)
