About

I graduated from Illinois State University with a BFA in music. I don't use a cookie-cutter approach, rather I strive to tailor the material to meet each student's individual needs. I want my students to have a firm understanding of the actual grammar and inner workings of music as a language, the guitar as the voice. I have been teaching students of all ages and musical backgrounds for over ten years. I am currently playing in 3 bands and have also performed as a soloist.

I have a passion for sharing my love and knowledge of music with others. It is a great feeling to assist in someone else's personal empowerment. I believe that when someone learns to play an instrument it will forever be a source of intrinsic happiness and will provide a consistent series of attainable personal goals throughout their lives. If I can have a hand in unlocking that in someone, I'm grateful.

Ive been taking lessons with Jason for a few months now, and I’m really impressed with how clearly he explains music theory. He breaks down complex concepts in a way that actually makes sense and shows how they apply directly to the guitar. Whether it’s scales, chord construction, or progressions, he always takes the time to make sure I understand how everything connects. Highly recommend Jason if you’re looking for a guitar teacher who’s strong on theory

Jason is an excellent teacher of the stringed and fretted instruments. Between his incredible patience, and skills to adapt to each players learning style makes him an ideal tutor for both beginner and veteran players alike. I really enjoy working with you! 🤜🤛

Jason is very flexible and works with you based on what you’re interested in developing, not just a “one size fits all approach”. He’s very patient and teaches not just how to play specific songs but also the theory that helps you become a better player. He brings a wealth of experience and skill and is always encouraging you to be the best player you can be.

    Frequently asked questions

After an initial phone consultation with a potential student I work on tailoring a personalized approach that we will apply to meet their individual needs and learning style. Much of your progress will depend on your motivation to practice the material between lessons. Regular lessons are important for instilling a routine check-up to encourage you to do the work necessary to progress.

I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music from Illinois State University, where I was on a guitar scholarship. There I studied classical guitar and guitar pedagogy (how to TEACH guitar). I'm an actively performing musician with over ten years of teaching experience.

I had my first students shortly after graduating high school. I went on to study guitar on scholarship at Illinois State University where I focused on music theory, guitar pedagogy, piano, music history, composition, and conducting.
