Introducing students to a whole new world of musical possibilities through discovering different styles of music, discovering how music relates to everything, learning how to be a storyteller through music, and find what makes them happy and encouraged to learn more!
Gloria is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music in Viola/Violin Music Performance and Pedagogy. Gloria is currently teaching music classes, private lessons, and performing with orchestras throughout the Chicago area.
Gloria started playing violin at the age of 7, and picked up the viola additionally at the age of 15. During the years, Gloria has participated in many different music programs such as Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Music Institute of Chicago Academy, Chicago Youth Music Festival Orchestra, and Bowdoin International Music Festival. Gloria has studied with Cyrus Forough, Alias and Roxanna Goldstein, SangMee Lee, Desiree Ruhstrat, and Stephen Wyrczynski. Gloria has toured with orchestras throughout Europe the summer of 2012 performing various styles of music. At the age of 17, Gloria won the DePaul Concerto Competition and debuted with the DePaul Symphony Orchestra.
Gloria has been teaching privately since 2010. She has experience teaching students from 3 years old to adult. Her teaching method focuses on teaching all styles of music and teaching improvisation as well. Gloria studied the Alexander Technique during her undergraduate studies and applies the relaxing and natural technique to every lesson. Gloria’s goal with every student is to help every student discover a love for music and to find the style of music that appeals to them.
I really enjoy working with students who get excited about learning music! I also love teaching students improvisation and how to create their own music which is super exciting of a process!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I assess their music level, determine the areas needing to be worked on, ask the student their goals, discover what kind of styles of music is enjoyable and exciting to learn.

How did you get started teaching?
Mentoring students and tutoring got me really interested in helping students achieve their best!
What types of students have you worked with?
Students from ages 3 - 65! I have experience working with autistic students and ADHD.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure your goals as a student what you would like to achieve aligns with the teacher you are selecting! Sometimes it takes a little bit to find the right teacher that is able to clearly communicate what you need to achieve and accomplish in order to be the best you can be!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Make sure you know what kind of music styles you enjoy playing and make you excited to learn! It is important to ask a teacher what technique and teaching styles will be used. If student is interested in ear training or learning to read music more of. Are there any special teaching method that the teacher uses?
