About this pro

My teaching approach: I have been teaching guitar lessons for over five years now. Over that time I have reached the conclusion that the best students I have had are not the ones with the most natural ability, but the ones who were the most motivated and excited to learn. I teach every student as an individual, and base our lessons around their interests and musical goals. I think that there is a difference between what can be taught, and what must be learned. I teach my students what I can, and guide them to learn what must be learned. My influences are: My family and friends, Plato, and other great thinkers from history such as Locke, and Descartes. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio or the student's homeGuitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: Sunday - Thursday 10:00am - 9:00pm Friday - Saturday 9:00am - 6:00pmGuitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment SelectionYour first guitar lesson with me might include the following: Usually for the introductory guitar lesson I have the student play through a couple different things they know. This gives me an idea what they are interested in and how well they can play. Just from hearing someone play 30-60 seconds I can get a pretty good idea of where their playing is at. If this does not, I will have them play some more, or give them a chord progression to play. From there I typically ask them a few questions about music. This is important because just because a student plays well does not mean they have a solid understanding of music, and the same is true the other way.A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: For a lot of my lessons, what I do with the student, is make a long list of songs that they are interested in learning. I then pick out one that is at an appropriate level, learn it myself, print off the music and teach it to them. From there we look at the key of the song, what chords are being used, and what scales. Then we might work on improvising over the chords in the verse, and relating the chord progression to other chord progressions we had looked at.The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: A student who shows up eager and ready to learn, and has worked on pursuing his/her musical goals in the past week.
