About
Yoga helped me to heal emotionally, as a young woman, and really changed the direction of my life for the better. After practicing for ten years, I began teaching yoga classes. Now that I've been teaching for decades, at the age of (almost) 76, I see that yoga has kept me strong physically, while growing my spiritual, emotional and mental health. It sounds amazing to anyone who has not had the experience, but this practice has the power to heal us on many levels! I truly am passionate about the path of Yoga, and I work to make it available to everyone, regardless of physical ability, through my teaching.
My first experiences with Yoga were at home, as both my parents practiced Yoga starting in the 1960's. In the early 1960's I went to India and met the great teacher Sri T. Krishnamacharya, and his son T.K.V. Desikachar.
I began teaching for free in the 1970's to friends who asked me. During the 1980's & '90's I taught in Wellness centers and YWCA in Clarksburg and Parkersburg, WV. I trained at Maui Yoga Therapy in 1996 through 1999. I also trained at The Vedic Chant Center, Santa Fe from 1998 to 2007, and still train almost every year. I became certified to teach by Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation in 2006. In 2003, I began teaching Yoga for Kansas State University, on campus, which I continue to do. College students benefit greatly from this practice!
For those who feel they are too weak, too old, too stiff - I teach private lessons to tailor a personal practice that will address you specific needs. I suggest, also, that beginners may want to start with a private lesson to evaluate whether they are ready to attend a group class. Those with experience, who are already practicing or looking to inspire their personal practice can also benefit from coming to me privately for one, or a series of lessons. And group classes are also available.
You can learn more about me on my website at www.yogaconnection.byregion.net and also on Face Book at Heart Space Yoga.
For me, teaching Yoga is a blessing. Helping students to discover themselves and appreciate themselves as they are, and to know they have the ability to transcend limitations is a joy! I have much gratitude for all my teachers, who have lifted me up to appreciate my own capabilities as a teacher, mentor and therapist - so that I can be of service to my community and all who visit here.
