Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I try and get an idea of where the student is in his or her playing. Though many are beginners, some already have some experience in playing. From that point I can put together what is needed to help improve the students playing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Years of playing and teaching all styles of music. I've played in all types of bands. I attended GIT in Hollywood as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Store lessons are $25 a half hour. My home rates are $45 a half hour and $65 an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked by a store owner to be an instructor.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. I've taught special needs students. I've taught a student with Parkinson's disease on the advise of her doctor.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who can teach. The are a lot of folks that can play guitar pretty well but, when it comes to teaching, lack the ability. Someone who has been at it for a while is a good indication of skill at teaching.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What their goals are in playing guitar. Do they wish to just play for pleasure? Do they want to play in their church? Do they want to be a "Rock Star"? I think most want to do it for the love of music.
