About
Benjamin Joseph has been teaching guitar, electric bass, and harmonica for over a decade. Born and raised in the music rich state of Alabama, he spent his youth playing and performing in various musical groups. Ben received his first degree in Music Production & Entrepreneurship from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. After completing his degree, he took a position as a music instructor at the non-profit organization, the Alabama Blues Project. Their mission is to preserve the heritage of Blues music as a traditional and contemporary art form through interactive programs that educate and entertain. In search of a fresh musical and cultural environment, he moved to New Orleans to strengthen his musicianship, absorb the culture, collaborate with other artists, and continue to teach music. His move to the music mecca that is New Orleans spring boarded him to perform on an international level taking him to places like Switzerland, France, and the UK. After completing a Masters degree in Music at the University of London SOAS, he has taught for the Surrey Arts Council, given music workshops for the British Red Cross, and continued with his ever expanding group of private music students. Ben holds an enhanced DBS clearance.
Introducing people to the world of music is such a joy! Watching students progress thoughout the years is the best part of the work I do.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Homestead Music currently offers two lesson formats: online and in-person. The lessons are tailored to each student’s skill level and aspirations as a musician. Please see the Student Blog page for an example of a weekly homework assignment. We can move as quickly or slowly through the material as it works for the student through a pragmatic and open learning process.
